Five Healthy Eating Things You Didn't Know Yet

Healthy eating is an important part of maintaining your health. There is lots of advice out there when it comes to eating healthy but a lot of that advice is not particularly useful. In reality making healthy eating choices is fairly simple if you keep a few things in mind. The five tips below are things that you may not know but really should about choosing a healthy diet.

1. If you want to lose weight you may actually need to be eating more often. For some reason most of us were raised on the idea that we should be eating three meals a day. However this is not how our bodies were designed to work. Instead you would be better off eating five or six small meals each day in order to keep your blood sugar levels at a constant level.

2. Fat is not what makes you fat. There are a lot of people who absolutely obsess over the fat content of what they eat because they are afraid that they will gain weight if they eat foods that are high in fat. Even worse there are lots of people who assume that if something is low in fat they can eat as much of it as they want. The truth is that when it comes to gaining weight the only issue is the number of calories. If the food that you are eating is high in calories you are going to end up gaining weight regardless of how much fat there is.

3. The foods that you really need to avoid are the processed ones. A lot of people avoid foods like meats because they are high in fat but the truth is that any natural foods are good for you. The ones that really cause the problems are the heavily processed ones that have become such an important part of our diets. Our bodies aren't really designed for these types of food and they have had most of their nutrients processed out anyway.

4. Fruits may not be the best option for you all the time. While they are certainly better for you than a lot of what we eat the fact remains that you should be limiting the amount that you consume. When we are told to consume lots of fruits and vegetables what is actually meant is that we should consume lots of vegetables and a few fruits. Fruit is better than junk food but not as good as vegetables.

5. When you are choosing vegetables there can be a pretty big difference in the amount of nutrients that they contain. As a general rule the darker the vegetables color the more nutrients it will contain. Therefore you are going to want to look for vegetables that have a dark color since they are the ones that offer the best nutrition.
